The effects on the United States were devastating. For one, the U.S. economy went into deep trouble because President Johnson said he wouldn't raise taxes to pay for the war. Inflation then got out of control (things cost too much money matched with how much people were paid at their jobs). Also, the military was treated with distrust and lack of appreciation. Most soldiers came home, traumatized by war, and instead of being embraced with love, they were made to feel like they had done something evil in Vietnam when fighting for democratic freedom. A lack of trust in the American government was definitely a huge result of this unfortunate war. One positive of the war was that the War Powers Act was developed in the United States. No longer could the President send soldiers into a war without direct approval from Congress.
